Businessman in court for allegedly obtaining N85m goods under false pretences –

A 62-year-old businessman, Alex Aguele, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly obtaining goods worth N85 million under false pretences.

The defendant who resides in Togo is charged with conspiracy and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecutor, Insp Christopher John, Aguele committed the offences  on Aug. 12, at No. 17, Allen Avenue, Ikeja. 

John told the court that Aguele obtained two containers of liquid soap, perfumes and air fresheners worth N111 million from STOVA Industries Ltd., and promised to pay for them after sales but failed to pay a substantial part.

John said that the defendant only paid N26 million and had  yet to pay  N85 million. 

He said that all efforts to recover  the money failed.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, O. A Ogunjobi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of one million Naira  with two sureties in like sum.

Ogunjobi adjourned the case until Aug. 8 for mention.
