Jewels Leading Lights Academy Students Sponsor Education For Girls In Need

In a heartwarming act of generosity, five students from Jewels Leading Lights Academy in Gwarinpa, Abuja, have taken it upon themselves to sponsor the education of eight girls from JSS1 to JSS3.

Stephanie Oboh, Matachi Nwoji, Amarachukwu Ihenacho, Chimaobi Okereke, and Emila Okojie, as part of their annual Duke of Edinburgh project, have joined hands with Knosk Secondary School in Kuje, Abuja offering scholarships to deserving students on the school’s waiting list.

The cost of education per term for each of these girls is N6,000, amounting to N18,000 for an entire session.

This sponsorship covers expenses such as books, uniforms, meals (breakfast and lunch), and even sanitary pads for girls during their menstrual cycles.

It is disheartening to note that despite the collective efforts of international organisations, governments, and individuals to promote education for the girl child, the number of out-of-school children remains alarmingly high.

UNICEF reports that in Nigeria alone, out of over 10 million children who are out of school, a staggering 60 percent of them are girls.

In light of this troubling statistic, the students from Jewels Leading Lights Academy took matters into their own hands.

They employed entrepreneurial skills such as snack-making and selling to raise funds for their project.

Additionally, they visited 99.9 Kiss FM radio station in Abuja to raise awareness about their cause and seek further support for the sponsorship of more girls into school.

This inspiring initiative demonstrates the power of young individuals to make a positive impact on society.

By providing educational opportunities to girls who might otherwise miss out on schooling, these students are paving the way for a brighter future, one girl at a time.

Their dedication and compassion serve as an example for us all, urging us to support and invest in education, especially for marginalized groups.
