Security agencies have rescued the pupils and teachers who were abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, ending an ordeal that lasted for more than 50 days.
The successful rescue was announced by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, through a post on his verified 𝕏 account on Friday.
Onanuga disclosed that security forces secured the release of the victims, describing it as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping in the country.
The rescued pupils and teachers had been held captive for weeks, drawing concern from residents, parents and education stakeholders across Oyo State.
In a separate operation, a combined team of security personnel also rescued a husband and wife who were kidnapped in the Oke-Ogun area of the state.
The victims, Alhaji Busiru Booni and his wife, Alhaja Pitiku, were freed without injuries after operatives tracked the kidnappers to their hideout and engaged them in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
According to reports, the couple was abducted on July 5, 2026, when about five armed men invaded Tiro village in Irawo. The attackers allegedly fired several shots before taking the victims into the forest.
The Oyo State Police Command stated that Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga immediately mobilised officers for a rescue mission. The operation was carried out in collaboration with the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes and hunters familiar with the terrain.
Investigators achieved an early breakthrough after recovering a Bajaj motorcycle believed to have been stolen by the suspects and abandoned in a nearby bush.
Authorities have commended the coordinated efforts of the various security agencies involved in both rescue operations, while assuring residents that investigations are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the abductions and strengthen security across the state.
