Lagos Selected to Host 2026 CAF Awards
Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) Director-General, Lekan Fatodu, has confirmed that Lagos will host the continent’s biggest football gala, the 2026 CAF Awards.
Fatodu said the event has been slated to hold at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts formerly known as the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos State.
The event is a celebration of the best footballers, coaches, clubs, national teams and administrators in Africa.
The hosting of the awards further elevates Nigeria’s stature as a destination for major continental sporting events and underscores the country’s ongoing role in the development and promotion of African football.
The annual CAF Awards is expected to gather some of the continent’s biggest football stars and stakeholders to celebrate the outstanding performances in club and international competitions over the past year.

The Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts has been confirmed as the venue of yet another landmark event in the iconic Lagos facility.
The cultural centre, which is shaped like a police cap, has become a symbol of Nigeria’s cultural and creative revival after its transformation by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Nigeria To Host CAF Awards, CAF General Assembly
The 2026 CAF Awards will hold a celebration of the best football talents on the continent in a number of categories including the Men’s Player of the Year, Women’s Player of the Year and Interclub Player of the Year.
Others are Young Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, National Team of the Year and Club of the Year.
Nigeria played host to the CAF Awards in 2015 at the Eko Hotels and Convention Centre, having hosted the ceremony in January 2017, at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Nigeria was earlier announced as the host of the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly which will hold in October.
The announcement cements the country’s growing status as a destination for major continental sporting events.
