WAFCON: Cameroon Edge Ghana 1-0 to Secure Crucial Victory
Cameroon put one foot in the quarter-finals of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ghana in their Group D clash in Casablanca.
The Indomitable Lionesses picked up where they left off last week, when they defeated Mali 2-1, with another disciplined display, and Marie Ngah Manga continued her fine form with her third goal of the tournament – all of Cameroon’s goals in Morocco 2026 have come from the forward.
Cameroon took the lead in the 19th minute after the VAR awarded them a penalty. Manga rose to the occasion and tucked home from the spot to give her side the lead.
The game was highly tactical as expected with Cameroon defending the lead hoping to catch the Ghanaians on the counter while the Black Queens pressed for the equaliser.
The Black Queens thought they had found the equaliser in the 80th minute when substitute Evelyn Badu fired the ball into the net following a failed clearance by the goalkeeper. But a second VAR check ruled the goal out for offside.

he closing stages but Cameroon defended resolutely to hold onto their narrow advantage and snatch another vital three points.
The victory maintains the Indomitable Lionesses’ path to the knockout stages before their final group D game against Cape Verde.
Ghana meanwhile play Mali in their last group game and know they need a positive result to stay in the qualification hunt.
