Another video showed the musician with his wife as they posed beside the American flag.
His announcement generated congratulatory reactions from fans and colleagues, while also prompting renewed appreciation of his contribution to Nigerian hip-hop.

His influence is often mentioned in discussions about the evolution of indigenous rap and the later success of artistes such as Dagrin, Olamide and Reminisce.
Meanwhile, another major development in the international music scene involves American rapper Rick Ross.
Ross, whose birth name is William Leonard Roberts II, recently surrendered to Miami Beach police over allegations arising from an incident involving a woman at his Star Island residence in Florida.
According to CBS News, he was subsequently booked at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Centre.
The 50-year-old rapper faces one felony charge of battery by strangulation and another charge classified as misdemeanour battery.
Police said the allegations concern an incident that allegedly occurred on August 28, although the woman reportedly made a formal report on September 29.
An arrest affidavit stated that Ross and the woman had been romantically involved for about a year and were living together.
The woman reportedly told investigators that Ross woke her at approximately 7:44 a.m. after becoming angry about her being tagged in an Instagram post.
She alleged that he questioned her about possible dishonesty before allegedly slapping her.
The woman further alleged that Ross later confronted her in a bathroom over an accusation that she was involved with another person.
The allegations remain matters for the legal process to determine.
