NYSC Director-General Tasks Corps Members on Entrepreneurship, Security Awareness
The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu has urged Nigerian graduates undergoing national service to embrace entrepreneurship, build professional networks and prioritise personal security as they prepare for life beyond the service year.
Nafiu gave the advice on Sunday when he visited the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp, Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, where he addressed members of the 2026 Batch C, Stream I.
He described the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme as a pathway to self-reliance, urging corps members to acquire practical skills that could help them create jobs and reduce dependence on paid employment.

“The skill you learn is your saving grace,” the NYSC chief said, stressing that the entrepreneurial abilities acquired during service could provide sustainable livelihoods after graduation.
He also encouraged the Corps members to cultivate purposeful friendships and build meaningful networks, noting that relationships established during the service year could open doors to future career opportunities and partnerships.

On security, Nafiu said the NYSC management was collaborating with relevant security agencies to strengthen measures to protect corps members, following reports of the kidnapping of prospective corps members.
He cautioned them against night journeys and urged them to remain vigilant and take personal safety seriously throughout their service year.

The Director-General also urged Corps members to accept their places of primary assignment in good faith, stressing that academic qualifications must be complemented by competence, practical skills and a willingness to learn.
He also urged them to respect the cultures, traditions, laws and values of their host communities to promote peaceful coexistence and successful national service.
Earlier, the Anambra State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Pauline Ojisua, welcomed the Director-General and reported that the Corps members had maintained discipline, while camp officials and participants were working together to ensure a smooth orientation exercise.
The visit featured a Quarter Guard parade in honour of the Director-General, cultural performances by the NYSC cultural troupe and a martial arts demonstration. The Corps members also offered three hearty cheers in his honour.
