Nollywood actress and DJ Dorcas Shola Fapson, widely known as Ms DSF, has advised people facing financial difficulties to reconsider having children if they cannot adequately provide for them.

She shared her opinion during a recent appearance on the In My Opinion podcast, where she described having children without sufficient financial resources as unfair to both the children and their parents.

Ms DSF emphasised that parenthood comes with significant responsibilities and that intending parents should consider whether they can afford the cost of raising a family before having children.

“Broke people shouldn’t have kids. I don’t think it is fair to the children. It is not fair to the family. It is not fair to you,” the actress stated.

Explaining her position, she recounted the experience of a cousin who has five children and, according to her, has struggled to meet their financial needs since having the first child.

She said the relative regularly asks for financial assistance to pay school fees and provide food for the children.

The actress questioned why people would continue having children when they were already struggling to meet the needs of those they had, arguing that such circumstances could place considerable pressure on the entire family.

Although Ms DSF disclosed that she was born into a humble background, she said she would not want her future children to face the same kind of financial challenges.

She therefore encouraged people intending to become parents to make realistic decisions about family size based on their ability to provide adequate care and support.

Her remarks have highlighted the sensitive debate surrounding financial readiness, family planning and the responsibilities of raising children, with her comments likely to attract differing opinions from members of the public.
