Federal Government Closes Case in Nnamdi Kanu’s Terrorism Trial

The Federal Government on Thursday formally closed its case in the ongoing trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), over allegations of terrorism and treason.
The government’s legal representative, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), made the announcement after the fifth prosecution witness (PW-5)—identified only as EEE for security reasons—completed his testimony and cross-examination by Kanu’s counsel, Onyechi Ikpeazu, before Justice James Omotosho at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Awomolo stated that the prosecution was satisfied with the evidence presented so far, including material related to the broadcast activities of the IPOB leader. According to him, the evidence laid out by the five witnesses was sufficient to conclude the government’s case.
“I therefore close the case,” Awomolo declared before the court.
Following the prosecution’s decision, lead defence counsel Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN) informed the court that the defence team would be filing a no-case submission, arguing that the evidence provided by the prosecution does not warrant the continuation of the trial. The motion is expected to be submitted shortly.
