Democracy Day in Nigeria, now recognized as June 12, has been designated as a national day for the President to address a joint session of the National Assembly.

The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, made this motion earlier today during the joint session of the National Assembly, where President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed the nation in celebration of Democracy Day.

On June 12, 2025, the Joint National Assembly passed the motion declaring June 12 as a National Day for the President to deliver a joint address to the National Assembly, receiving a resounding approval with a loud “Hi’s” from members.

The motion was moved during the National Assembly session held for the President’s Democracy Day address.
