New Political Movement Emerges

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the National Opposition Coalition Group (NOCG)—a body comprising major national political figures—has formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), seeking registration of its newly formed political party, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA).
The coalition is chaired by former Senate President David Mark, while the New Platform Committee (NPC), tasked with establishing the new party, is headed by former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi.
According to a statement dated May 19, 2025, and signed by Amaechi (Chairman) and Umar Ardo (Secretary), the committee’s formation followed a coalition meeting held in Abuja on May 6, 2025. The NPC, consisting of 15 members, was mandated to initiate the process of forming an association and submitting an application to INEC for party registration.
The statement disclosed that several planning sessions were held, sub-committees were formed, and reports were presented, culminating in the approval of the new party structure.
At its meeting on June 19, 2025, the committee formally approved the establishment of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) as a political association. During the session, the party’s logo, slogan, motto, constitution, and manifesto were adopted. The committee also appointed Chief Akin A. Ricketts as the Protem Chairman and Abdullahi Musa Elayo as the Protem National Secretary.
The interim leadership was further directed to secure office space, open a bank account (upon INEC registration), and commence operational activities in line with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act (2022).
Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing about the formation of a broader opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections. This prospective alliance reportedly includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, all exploring the possibility of uniting to challenge President Bola Tinubu.
A spokesperson for Atiku recently confirmed that talks are in progress, stating, “There have been ongoing discussions between Atiku Abubakar and some opposition leaders, including Peter Obi and Nasir El-Rufai.” He noted that the final outcome of these discussions will reflect the “yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians.”
In response, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the move, asserting that any coalition effort to unseat President Tinubu in 2027 would ultimately fail.
