P-GAT Industries Ltd and China’s DESUNERGY Co., Ltd have signed a 50 million dollar Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Phase One Agreement to build electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across Adamawa and the entire Northeastern states of Nigeria.

This initiative marks a significant step towards expanding clean energy and sustainable transportation in the state and the entire northeast of Nigeria.

The agreement, signed in Yola, is expected to strengthen Adamawa’s emerging electric mobility ecosystem, with the state projected to benefit from 70 per cent of the project’s value.

The investment forms part of a broader partnership aimed at positioning Adamawa as a leading hub for renewable energy and electric transportation in Nigeria.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mike Qiu, one of the investors with SUZHOU DESUNERGY Co., Ltd, and a director representing Changzhou Fenghua New Energy Co. Ltd, said the global shift towards cleaner and greener energy has made electric mobility the future of transportation.

He noted that Nigeria presents enormous opportunities for investment in renewable energy, describing the country’s growing interest in electric vehicles as both timely and economically viable.

Qiu observed that the rising cost of petrol has placed a heavy financial burden on commercial tricycle operators across Nigeria, leaving many with shrinking profit margins.

He said adopting electric vehicles would significantly reduce operating costs while offering a smarter, more comfortable and environmentally friendly alternative that requires less maintenance and delivers higher returns for operators.

He assured that DESUNERGY would provide the technical support required for the project’s success.

“We will ensure that we train the riders and technicians who will provide service and maintenance for the EVs, including battery swapping. We will work hand in hand with P-GAT to make this project a success,” Qiu said.

The Chinese investor described Nigerians as hardworking, resilient and innovative people whose determination mirrors that of the Chinese.

He expressed confidence that given the right opportunities and an enabling environment, Nigerians have the capacity to achieve remarkable progress in technology, enterprise and economic development.

He also encouraged young Nigerians not to be discouraged by present challenges but to remain focused on their dreams, stressing that perseverance, hard work and willingness to embrace innovation are essential for success in the rapidly evolving global economy.

Prime GA Timothy, the Chairman and President of P-GAT Industries Ltd, described the EPC agreement as the first phase of a long-term infrastructure development initiative to establish a network of electric vehicle charging stations across Adamawa State and the Northeast region.

“The goal is to build at least 150 battery swapping and charging stations across the Northeast region of Nigeria over the next three years; of which same model would be replicated across other regions in Nigeria and other African Countries Through the ATRaS Mobility Ecosystem (ATRaS Ecosystem),” he noted.

He further stated that the project is expected to stimulate investment, create employment opportunities, enhance technical skills among young people and accelerate the state’s transition to clean and sustainable transportation.

The agreement further consolidates P-GAT Industries’ growing investment in Adamawa’s mobility and infrastructure sectors, reinforcing ongoing efforts to transform the state and the Northeast region into a major destination for electric transportation and green energy development in Nigeria.

Some of the companies involved in this deal are Phylion Battery Co., Ltd, Suzhou Desunergy Co., Ltd, Changzhou Fenghua New Energy Co., Ltd, Alpha ESS Co., Ltd and Suzhou Hitech Co., Ltd
