BREAKING: Nollywood Mourns As Veteran Actor Olu Jacobs Dies At 84
Nigerian entertainment has lost one of its most respected veterans, Olu Jacobs, who has died at the age of 84.
The legendary actor and film executive, born Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, died on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
His family confirmed the news through social media posts by his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, and their son, Olusoji Jacobs.
The family described Jacobs as “The Lion of Lufodo” and asked members of the media, particularly bloggers and social media influencers, to respect their privacy while they mourn.
Born on July 11, 1942, Olu Jacobs enjoyed a remarkable career that covered theatre, television and film.

He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, where he developed his professional acting skills. He later appeared in British television productions and international films before establishing himself as a major figure in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
Jacobs became widely recognised for his performances in Nigerian films and his contribution to the growth of Nollywood.
Over the course of his career, he received numerous honours, including the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) in 2011.
He was also presented with the Industry Merit Award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, recognising his contribution to the African film industry.
Beyond his work in front of the camera, Jacobs also served as a film executive and became an influential figure in the development of Nigeria’s creative sector.
He is survived by his wife, Joke Silva, children and grandchildren.
The veteran actor’s death marks a major loss to Nigeria’s entertainment industry, with his decades-long career leaving a lasting presence across theatre, television and cinema.
