A Nigerian music production story involving Sexy Steel and Davido has resurfaced after Sexy Steel claimed that he owned the beat that became “Dami Duro.”

The artiste made the claim in a video, drawing attention to the origins of the instrumental behind Davido’s early breakthrough.

Davido, speaking during an Afrobeat documentary interview, confirmed part of Sexy Steel’s account. He said the foundation of the beat was initially created for Sexy Steel.

Davido recalled that he was working from his Lagos studio in 2011 when he produced the instrumental specifically for the singer.

The production later involved Shizzy, who contributed keys and additional elements to the track.

According to Davido, he eventually recognised that the instrumental had significant potential and decided to record it himself.

The decision resulted in “Dami Duro,” which became a major hit and helped establish Davido as one of the emerging stars of Nigerian music at the time.

Sexy Steel’s claim has since reopened discussion about who the original instrumental was intended for and how it changed hands creatively.

Davido’s account acknowledges the beat’s initial connection to Sexy Steel while explaining that he ultimately used the instrumental for his own recording.

The song went on to become one of the defining records associated with Davido’s early career and the Afrobeats movement of the period.
