Defence Cooperation: Nigeria, Saudi Arabia Seek Closer Security Partnership
The Defence Headquarters has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening defence and security ties with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, following a courtesy visit by the Saudi Ambassador to Nigeria, Yousef Bin Mohammed Al-Balawi.
The visit, which took place at the Defence Headquarters provided an opportunity for both countries to review existing areas of collaboration and explore new avenues for enhanced military-to-military cooperation.
Speaking during the engagement, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa Olufemi Oluyede, welcomed the ambassador and underscored the importance Nigeria attaches to its longstanding relationship with Saudi Arabia.
He stressed the need to sustain and expand cooperation in areas that would improve the professional capacity and operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
General Oluyede expressed appreciation for the Kingdom’s continued goodwill towards Nigeria and noted that stronger defence relations would contribute significantly to regional and global security efforts.
In his remarks, Ambassador Al-Balawi described Nigeria as a strategic partner in Africa and reiterated Saudi Arabia’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations with the country.
He affirmed the Kingdom’s readiness to strengthen engagement and cooperation in defence and security matters for the mutual benefit of both nations.
Both sides acknowledged that enhanced institutional and professional linkages between their armed forces would foster greater collaboration in addressing shared security challenges and promoting stability.
The CDS expressed optimism that the discussions would translate into concrete areas of cooperation, further consolidating the longstanding partnership between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.
The visit highlights the commitment of both countries to advancing their bilateral relationship and promoting peace, security and stability through strengthened defence cooperation.
