Afrobeats star Fireboy DML has revealed why he deliberately keeps his personal life private and avoids controversies in an entertainment industry where celebrity relationships and lifestyles frequently attract public attention.

The singer, whose real name is Adedamola Adefolahan, made the revelation while engaging with fans on issues concerning his personality, public image and music career.

Fireboy said he rarely gives the public access to details about his private life. According to him, maintaining that distance makes it difficult for people to misunderstand him or build narratives around his personal affairs.

He noted that unlike some entertainers, he has managed to stay away from scandals and situations that could generate unnecessary publicity.

The singer also explained that he does not depend on gimmicks or publicity stunts to sell his music. Instead, he prefers his songs and artistic ability to attract listeners.

“They don’t know me enough to misunderstand me. I don’t give them enough personality or gist into my personal life. I don’t have scandals, I don’t relate with other artistes, I don’t sell my music with gimmicks,” Fireboy said.

He said the presence of cultists also contributed to the fear he experienced after arriving in Lagos.

According to the singer, the appearance and general lifestyle of some Lagos residents were also unfamiliar and intimidating to him at the time.

Despite the challenges, Fireboy said he remained determined to achieve his musical ambitions.

Rather than abandoning his dream, he gradually adjusted to the city and its lifestyle.

His experience highlights some of the challenges young artistes may encounter when moving to Lagos in pursuit of opportunities in Nigeria’s competitive entertainment industry.
