Laolu Gbenjo Warns Against Turning Toluwanisings’ Death Into Another Mohbad Controversy
Nigerian gospel singer Laolu Gbenjo has cautioned the public against spreading unverified information about the death of his colleague, Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, amid growing controversy surrounding the circumstances of his passing and burial arrangements.
Gbenjo issued the warning on Tuesday during a night of tributes organised in honour of the late singer in Ibadan, Oyo State. His comments come amid reports of disagreements among members of Toluwanisings’ family over issues relating to his death and burial.
The gospel singer expressed concern that the situation could develop into a controversy similar to the public dispute that followed the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
Describing Toluwanisings as a devoted Christian with a kind heart, Gbenjo said the deceased was committed to serving God and maintained good relationships with people around him.
He urged social media users to stop circulating claims and engaging in online discussions that could further complicate the situation.
“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.
Woli Agba announced the development in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.
The notice, issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, warned against publishing or circulating allegations the comedians consider false and defamatory. Their legal representatives described the claims as baseless and damaging to their clients’ reputations.
The developments have intensified calls for restraint as discussions surrounding the late gospel singer’s death continue.
