NANS Lauds Ogun Authorities After Safe Rescue of Abducted Polytechnic Students
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has applauded the Ogun State Government and security agencies for the safe rescue of all the five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade who were abducted last week.
The student body in a Thursday statement signed by NANS National Secretary General, Comrade Oladimeji Uthman, expressed “profound joy and relief” that the students were rescued alive and unharmed.
The development was recalled to have happened just a day after NANS gave a 72-hour ultimatum to the state government and security agencies to rescue the students.
“We are very happy that the students have been rescued alive and unharmed, and that the anxiety experienced by their families, colleagues and the entire Nigerian student community has ended,” NANS said.
The national student body specifically commended the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for what it described as his “unwavering dedication to the security of lives and properties” and for providing the needed support that paved the way for the operation.

The association also applauded the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni for “exemplary leadership, strategic coordination and commitment.”
The operation was successful because of his professionalism, determination and effective use of security resources. NANS said, “It is yet another demonstration of the commitment of the Ogun State Police Command to the protection of lives of citizens and restoration of confidence in the public.
NANS also commended the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Amotekun, local security outfits and all those involved in the rescue mission.
It said their “bravery, intelligence gathering and teamwork ensured the students were rescued unharmed.”
“This successful operation shows that with effective collaboration, intelligence-led policing and strong government support, criminal elements can be decisively confronted,” the association added.
NANS called on security agencies to maintain efforts to protect students and schools across the country. It also repeated its plea for “continuous strengthening of security around campuses and student host communities to prevent similar incidents in the future.”
The association also congratulated the rescued students and their families, and thanked all those who contributed to the successful operation.
