NANS Urges Education Minister to Release Outstanding Federal Scholarship Funds Without Delay
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, to urgently facilitate the release of all outstanding payments of the Federal Government Scholarship owed to beneficiaries from 2024 to date.
In a statement signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Comrade Obidah David, NANS said the continuous delay in payment has become “a matter of serious concern” to students and their families across the country.
The association said its National Secretariat has had to receive numerous complaints from affected beneficiaries whose academic pursuits and personal welfare have been greatly affected by the prolonged delay.
“The Federal Government Scholarship Scheme is more than just financial assistance for many students, it is a crucial support system that allows them to pursue their education without the burden of overwhelming financial constraints,” the statement partly read.
NANS said the non-disbursement of the funds had left many beneficiaries struggling to meet tuition obligations, accommodation expenses, research costs and other essential educational needs.
The students’ body commended the Federal Government and the Federal Ministry of Education for their commitment to enhancing access to quality education and for pushing policies that engender academic excellence.

“In this spirit of mutual commitment to the future of Nigerian students, we respectfully call on the Honourable Minister to give this matter the urgent attention it deserves,” NANS said.
The association expressed confidence that the ministry understands the significance of timely scholarship payments and said that prompt payment would bring relief to the affected students and boost public confidence in the Federal Government Scholarship Scheme.
NANS said it remains committed to constructive engagement and dialogue with the Federal Ministry of Education to promote policies that will promote the welfare of Nigerian students.
“We therefore call on the Honourable Minister of Education to immediately ensure that all outstanding scholarship payments to beneficiaries from 2024 to date are released without further delay,” the statement added.
“The future of our country depends on the quality of education and support that we give our young people. “We trust that this sincere appeal will receive the prompt and favourable consideration it merits.”
