Nigerian Rapper Falz Questions Government’s Priorities, Blasts ‘Emi Lọkan’ Slogan
Falz, the Nigerian rapper, actor and activist, has sparked fresh political debates after he fiercely condemned the Federal Government’s priorities, queried its spending choices, and dismissed the popular ‘Emi Lọkan’ campaign slogan as one of the most ridiculous political messages he has ever heard.
The award-winning entertainer who spoke in an interview on Arise TV, expressed concern over the worsening economic conditions in the country and pervasive insecurity, arguing that government resources should be channelled towards tackling the challenges facing millions of Nigerians instead of funding luxury purchases.
“Why is the government spending so much money on luxury items, like cars and planes, when so many of its citizens are fighting inflation, unemployment and security threats?” Falz asked.
“If you look at what has been spent on acquiring new vehicles, acquiring jets and all these things, and compare it with what has actually been done about insecurity and the challenges we are facing, you have to ask: what are the government’s priorities?” he said.
The rapper also took a swipe at what he described as the increasing trend of creating foundations and such, arguing that these do not address the root causes of Nigeria’s issues.
‘Is that the answer to our problems? More fundamentals? He said: “RIDICULOUS.
Falz also reacted to recent remarks made by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, who said the government was under “tremendous pressure” and urged young Nigerians to play a more active role in nation building.
Responding, the entertainer said those seeking public office do so voluntarily and should be ready to accept the responsibilities and expectations that come with leadership.
“What do you mean pressure on the government? “Did anybody make you take this part?” he asked.

The brash rapper saved his most biting attack for the slogan “Emi Lọkan,” a Yoruba phrase meaning “It is my turn,” that became closely associated with President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 presidential campaign.
The slogan, according to Falz, represents a mentality that puts personal ambition over public service.
Do you know what that means in English? It’s my turn. He said, “I have never seen anything more absurd in my whole life.”
His argument was that if a politician runs on the basis that it’s “their turn,” they shouldn’t then complain about the pressure of governing.
“So from the first day that you begin your political journey, this is the day that you have been waiting for. So you can come and say the pressure is too much? “Are you okay?” he added.
Falz’s comments have since drawn wide reactions across the social media. Many Nigerians lauded him for speaking candidly on governance and accountability but critics labelled his remarks as politically motivated. The interview has helped the ongoing debate on leadership, public spending and the role of elected officials in Nigeria.
