RJ Mitte, the American actor who rose to fame as Walter White Jr. in the hit television drama Breaking Bad, has reportedly died at the age of 34.

The actor died on Monday, October 12, 2026, in Brownsville, Texas, according to reports citing local authorities and his representatives. His representatives confirmed his death to CBS News but did not provide details about what led to it.

Meanwhile, a Cameron County official confirmed that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the actor’s death was continuing.

Mitte earned worldwide recognition for his performance in Breaking Bad, appearing as the son of Walter White, portrayed by Bryan Cranston. The series, which ran from 2008 to 2013, became one of television’s most celebrated dramas, following the transformation of a high school chemistry teacher into a methamphetamine manufacturer.

Mitte appeared in 56 episodes of the production, alongside Cranston and Aaron Paul, who played Jesse Pinkman. The cast received a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2014 for the programme’s final season.

Away from television, Mitte was known for his efforts to improve the representation of people with disabilities. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was three years old and later became an advocate for inclusion and equal opportunities in the entertainment industry.

His advocacy earned him the SAG-AFTRA Howard Russell Award in 2014. He also worked with disability-focused organisations, serving as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s.

Mitte’s acting credits included The Recall and The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!). Beyond acting, he led The Mitte Foundation, a family-established charity based in Austin, Texas, which provides support to marginalised communities in South Texas.

His representative remembered him as a beloved actor, philanthropist and committed disability rights advocate.

The news comes approximately one year after Mitte proposed to his girlfriend, Kennedy Suarez, at the 56th annual Dia del Sol benefit in Carlsbad, California, an event supporting United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego.

The cause of his reported death has not been disclosed.
