Tayo Faniran Opens Up on His Nollywood Journey, Says Talent Should Count More
Nollywood actor Tayo Faniran has alleged that success in the Nigerian film industry is influenced by factors beyond talent and professional ability.
The actor shared his views during an interview on TVC’s eSplash, where he discussed his career and the realities he has encountered in Nollywood.
Faniran argued that some of the producers considered among the biggest names in the industry are not necessarily the most talented. He said the image presented to the public does not always reflect what happens within the industry.
“In Nollywood, the film producers you guys see and know as the biggest are not the most talented film producers,” he stated.

Reflecting on his own career, Faniran said he would have progressed further if Nollywood operated strictly on talent and merit.
“If Nollywood were strictly about talent, I should be far beyond where I am,” the actor said.
He went on to allege that there is a degree of “rigging” in the industry, implying that professional opportunities may sometimes be affected by considerations other than ability.
Faniran’s remarks highlight his perspective on the challenges facing performers and filmmakers seeking to establish themselves in Nollywood.
