UN Migration Agency Reaches 17.8 Million People With Humanitarian Aid in 2025
The UN migration agency, IOM, provided humanitarian assistance to 17.8 million people across 170 countries and territories in 2025, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Annual Report 2025 released on Wednesday said.
The IOM , established in 1951 , provides humanitarian assistance to refugees and displaced persons , helps governments to develop policies for safe migration , and promotes humane and orderly migration around the world .
The report said the agency focused its operations in areas affected by crises, including Gaza, Haiti, Myanmar, Ukraine and the Sahel, where it provided shelter assistance to 7.3 million people during the year.

It also delivered 4.2 million primary healthcare consultations and helped 5.1 million people with water, sanitation and hygiene services.
In addition to providing direct humanitarian assistance, the IOM said its data and analysis informed 21 humanitarian response plans, enabling governments and aid organisations to improve the targeting of support.
As global humanitarian funding continues to fall, the report stressed the need for better coordination and evidence-based interventions to reach the most vulnerable.
“Needs reached unprecedented levels due to conflicts, disasters, disease outbreaks and displacement, at a time when resources were contracting dramatically,” said IOM Deputy Director General for Operations Ugochi Daniels.
“While these challenges remained, IOM was on the ground where people needed us most,” she said.
