Bella Shmurda Loses $4 Million in Alleged Property Scam, Begs for Assistance
Popular Nigerian Afrobeats and street-pop singer, Abiola Ahmed Akinbiyi, popularly known as Bella Shmurda, has cried out for being scammed of $4 million in a property deal in Lagos. In an emotional Instagram Live, the singer revealed that the property he bought was identified as stolen property, leaving him in financial and emotional distress.
During the broadcast, Bella Shmurda pleaded to the public and authorities for help saying he was desperate after the seller disappeared.
“Nigeria, I need help,” he said. I’m not doing okay at the moment. “I spent $4 million of my own hard-earned money and discovered that I bought stolen property.”
The seller has disappeared now. Please, help me out. Somebody take over. “ I’ve nothing left. “ He went on. I’ve worked years for this “I can’t just lose $4 million like that.
The Hypertension singer has confirmed that he has taken legal action to recover his money and settle the ownership dispute post the incident.
“I just called my lawyer and he’s going to look into it,” he said.

As of press time, law enforcement has not issued an official statement to the claims and the seller has yet to be identified.
Abiola Akinbiyi (born 27 January 1996, Ikorodu, Lagos) is the youngest of 10 children in a polygamous family. His musical journey started with formative years in school bands and cultural troupes, but it was his 2019 single “Vision 2020” that brought him to mainstream fame. The song, which captured his struggles hustling to support his family as a university student, went viral after a remix collaboration with Nigerian music icon, Olamide.
Since then, Bella Shmurda has established his position in the industry with a steady discography that blends Afrobeats, Afro-fusion and street-pop. His notable projects include the EPs High Tension (2020) and High Tension 2.0 (2021), his debut studio album Hypertension (2022), and his sophomore album, Sanity (2025). He is also the leader of “Dangbana Republik”, a collective best known for his community-focused approach.
