Ghanaian President to Attend Democracy Dialogue in Nigeria
President of Ghana, John Mahama is one of the African Leaders expected to grace the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation (GJF) 2026 “democracy dialog” holding in Bauchi State in northern Nigeria.
Some of the dignitaries expected at the event are Nigeria’s Vice-President, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, and former Sierra Leonean President, Dr Ernest Koroma, according to a statement by the Media Officer of the GJF, Mr Wealth Ominabo, on Thursday in Abuja.
The statement said the 2026 GJF flagship democracy dialog will discuss the part political parties and the judiciary play in protecting democracy in Africa.
The dialog with the theme, “Beyond Elections: Can Political Parties and the Judiciary Save African Democracy?” would hold on August 11 at the International Conference Center, Bauchi, where the institutions that sustain democracy beyond the electoral process would also be interrogated, he said.

He said the choice of Bauchi State as the venue, which is the home of Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Nigeria’s first and only Prime Minister, reflected the state’s historic role in the country’s democratic development.
Ominabo said Obasanjo would chair the dialog with Mahama as special guest of honor and Shettima as guest of honor.
“The event will be hosted by Chairman and Founder of GJF, Dr Goodluck Jonathan and Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State,” he said.
He said the keynote address will be given by a Board Member, African Leadership Center, King’s College London, Prof Karuti Kanyinga.
The Royal Father of the Day was Dr Rilwanu Adamu, Emir of Bauchi and Chairman, Bauchi State Council of Emirs and Traditional Rulers.
“Other prominent participants include ex-Supreme Court Justice, Amina Augie, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of Ghana, Johnson Nketia,” he said.
