Nigeria and China Deepen Bilateral Development Cooperation
China has announced a grant assistance of RMB 200 million to Nigeria to support the implementation of development projects agreed upon by both countries.
Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, announced the grant during a meeting with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Dunoma Umar Ahmed, in Abuja.
According to a statement issued by the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, Ambassador Yu explained that the grant formed part of China’s continued support for Nigeria’s national development and economic growth.
He highlighted the longstanding diplomatic relationship between the two countries, noting that China and Nigeria had maintained strong ties since the establishment of diplomatic relations 55 years ago.
“Over the past 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria, bilateral relations have consistently remained at the forefront of China-Africa relations,” he said.
The Ambassador stated that the relationship had entered a new phase of development under the strategic guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the China-Nigeria Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as being on a path of high-quality development.
He noted that both countries had maintained close communication and coordination in implementing agreements reached by the two leaders, as well as the outcomes of the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit.
Bilateral Cooperation
Yu said the objective was to ensure that the benefits of bilateral cooperation translated into tangible improvements in the lives of citizens in both countries.
“China will provide RMB 200 million in grant assistance to Nigeria for the implementation of projects agreed upon by the two governments.” The Envoy stated.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Dunoma Umar Ahmed, expressed appreciation to the Chinese government for its continued support for Nigeria’s economic and social development.

He noted that the grant demonstrated China’s commitment to supporting Nigeria and reflected the longstanding friendship between the two countries.
“The grant assistance fully demonstrates China’s sense of responsibility as a major country and reflects the deep friendship between Nigeria and China,” the Permanent Secretary stated.
Dr Ahmed gave the assurance that Nigeria would ensure the effective utilisation of the grant and continue working closely with China to implement agreements reached by both governments.
He added that the Nigerian government would further deepen bilateral relations and strengthen cooperation in areas capable of delivering greater benefits to citizens.
“Nigeria will make effective use of the grant assistance, work with China to implement the common understandings on bilateral cooperation reached by the two governments, and further advance Nigeria-China friendship, bringing greater benefits to the peoples of both countries,” Ahmed said.
The development underscores the growing economic and diplomatic ties between Nigeria and China, as both countries seek to deepen cooperation and translate their strategic partnership into practical development outcomes.
