Popular Nigerian comedienne Anita Asuoha, widely known as Warri Pikin, has apologised to her fans and critics following backlash over a viral video showing her dancing with singer Timaya during a live performance.

The controversy erupted over the weekend after footage of the comedian on stage with the singer circulated widely on social media. Some viewers criticised her actions, describing the interaction as inappropriate for a married woman and questioning the boundaries displayed during the performance.

Responding to the criticism, Warri Pikin released a video in which she accepted responsibility for what happened and asked the public to forgive her.

She explained that she had been backstage enjoying Timaya’s performance when the singer called for a woman to join him on stage during his hit song, “Ukwu.” Driven by excitement, she said she immediately rushed out without considering how the moment might later be perceived.

According to the comedienne, she initially refused when she was asked to participate in the performance but eventually agreed after Timaya reminded her that she had voluntarily come on stage and should not disrupt his show.

Warri Pikin said the encounter appeared harmless and entertaining while it was happening but admitted that she understood why the video generated a different reaction after being shared online.

She also revealed that her husband, whom she affectionately referred to as Ikechukwu, was upset about the incident.

“Area, abeg make Una no vex for me. I take full responsibility, make Una forgive me. Na me do am to myself,” she said while appealing to her followers.

The comedienne stressed that the behaviour was not consistent with her character and asked her “online in-laws” not to push her away from her marriage amid the controversy.

She maintained that she remained committed to her marriage and described her relationship as one she intended to preserve permanently.

Warri Pikin further acknowledged that some of the criticism directed at her came from people who were genuinely concerned rather than from those seeking to attack her.

“There are times you find yourself in some awkward situation, and yesterday was one of them,” she explained.

She said she understood the concerns raised by members of the public and felt obligated to apologise because of the widespread reaction to the video.

The comedian concluded by urging her fans to show her some understanding, insisting that the incident was an awkward moment rather than a reflection of her values or commitment to her family.
