UK Centres: Immigration Processes 2,296 Nigerian Passport Applications in a Week
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has enrolled 2,296 Nigerians in the United Kingdom for passports within six days of its Special Passport Intervention Exercise.
The intervention, which began on September 7, 2026, is being implemented at designated centres in London and Manchester to provide passport services to Nigerians in the UK.
The NIS Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Akinsola Akinlabi, disclosed the figures in a statement, noting that the exercise had continued to attract a strong turnout from applicants with confirmed appointments.
Manchester recorded the higher number of enrolments, with 1,709 applicants processed during the first six operational days. The London Centre, meanwhile, handled 587 applicants.
Akinlabi said the daily figures were 245 applicants on September 7, 401 on September 8, 396 on September 9, 429 on September 10, 406 on September 11 and 419 on September 12.
The Comptroller-General of the NIS, Kemi Nanna Nandap, visited the intervention centres in both cities as part of efforts to monitor the exercise and ensure that applicants receive effective services.

According to Akinlabi, the visit enabled the NIS boss to observe the process directly, interact with members of the Nigerian community and assess the quality of service being provided.
He said the intervention programme would remain ongoing at the London and Manchester centres, assuring Nigerians with confirmed appointments that they would receive the necessary services.
The spokesman further disclosed that the production and dispatch of passports for applicants who had already completed enrolment had commenced.
He said the process was progressing steadily and urged applicants to continue cooperating with officials at the intervention centres.
The NIS thanked members of the Nigerian community in the UK for their patience and cooperation, stressing that their support remained important to the success of the exercise.
The service reiterated its commitment to providing efficient and responsive passport services while the special intervention programme continues.
