Fubara: Wike’s Interest in Rivers Is About Resources, ADC Claims

The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress has criticised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, alleging that he continues to exercise significant influence over the affairs of the state.

ADC Publicity Secretary Chizzy Enyi made the comments in a video shared on social media.

His reaction followed Wike’s interview with TVC News, during which the minister spoke about Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s role in ongoing reconciliation efforts.

Wike said Fubara had done everything requested of him as part of efforts to resolve political differences with members of his former political group.

The minister specifically mentioned the submission of a list of APC campaign council members before Fubara travelled to the United States.

Enyi, however, argued that Wike’s comments suggested that the former Rivers governor had assumed the role of the state’s chief executive.

The ADC spokesman alleged that Wike’s primary interest in Rivers State was its resources.

He questioned the extent to which the former governor should continue influencing decisions involving the current administration.

Enyi said Wike’s comments demonstrated what he described as continued control over political affairs in Rivers.

He added that the situation would eventually come to an end.

The disagreement comes amid continuing efforts to reconcile political factions in Rivers State.

Wike, who governed Rivers before Fubara took office, has remained an influential political figure in the state. The relationship between the two politicians later became strained, leading to a prolonged political dispute.

Recent reconciliation efforts have sought to restore cooperation among the various political camps.

While Wike has described Fubara’s actions as evidence of sincerity, the ADC has continued to question the former governor’s influence.

Enyi’s comments are an allegation by the opposition party and were not accompanied by direct evidence establishing Wike’s motives.

Wike was also not quoted as responding directly to the ADC spokesman’s latest remarks.

The exchange illustrates the continuing political contest over influence and leadership in Rivers State.
