Banky W Speaks on Heartbreak Following 2023 Election Defeat
Singer, filmmaker and entrepreneur Bankole Wellington, popularly called Banky W, has said his defeat in the 2023 general election helped him understand his purpose differently and eventually embrace pastoral ministry.
The entertainer shared the story while celebrating his first anniversary as a pastor, describing the election loss as a painful experience that pushed him to seek a clearer understanding of God’s plans for his life.
Banky W contested for the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives under the Peoples Democratic Party but was unsuccessful.
According to him, the outcome left him emotionally devastated and raised questions about what he should pursue next.
He said he considered several possibilities, including politics, entertainment, business and ministry, as he tried to determine the direction of his future.
However, the singer explained that his search for answers eventually changed his understanding of how his different interests could fit together.
Rather than viewing ministry and his professional activities as competing options, he realised that he could pursue them simultaneously.

Banky W said he had come to understand that God was expanding his assignment rather than asking him to abandon his previous pursuits.
He noted that he would continue to work as a musician, filmmaker and entrepreneur while also serving as a pastor and professor.
In reflecting on the experience, he said the election result did not turn out as he had hoped, but it ultimately contributed to a broader understanding of his life’s purpose.
The entertainer also used the occasion to reflect on the passage of one year since he began his pastoral journey.
He described the milestone as a reminder that disappointment does not necessarily mean that a person’s plans have failed permanently.
According to him, what appears to be an ending can sometimes open the way for a new chapter.
Banky W expressed gratitude for the changes in his life and encouraged his followers to celebrate his first pastoral anniversary with him.
His remarks highlight the personal and spiritual lessons he drew from his unsuccessful political bid and how those reflections influenced his decision to take on additional responsibilities in ministry without giving up his other careers.
