Cargo Plane Skids Off Runway At Kinshasa Airport

A Douglas DC‑8‑73CF cargo aircraft operated by Trans Air Cargo Service skidded off runway 24 at N’djili International Airport on Tuesday, coming to rest on soft ground after its nose landing gear collapsed.

According to reports monitored here on Wednesday, the aircraft, registered as 9S‑AJO, moved from the paved surface during landing and stopped alongside the runway. No fatalities were reported.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Permanent Bureau of Investigation of Aviation Accidents and Incidents has classified the occurrence as an accident and dispatched investigators to the site.

Visibility was reportedly reduced by haze at the time of the incident, although investigators have not indicated whether weather contributed to the accident.
