‘It Wasn’t to Shame Him’ – Biola Bayo Responds to Critics Over Divorce Reveal
Renowned Nollywood actress Biola Bayo has revealed the reason she chose to announce her recent separation from her husband, Oluseyi, at this particular time.
The actress made the announcement last week through a social media post that was intended to celebrate Oluseyi’s birthday.
The announcement, made four years into their marriage, stirred significant controversy and backlash on social media, with many accusing Biola Bayo of using her estranged husband’s birthday as a platform to subject him to public criticism.
Responding to the criticism during a recent house presentation ceremony for fellow actress Jumoke George, Biola Bayo clarified that her decision was aimed at taking control of the narrative surrounding her marriage breakdown and preempting the spread of misinformation online.
“Please, I’m a human too,” Biola Bayo said emotionally. “The reason I shared my marital status was because I didn’t want others telling my story for me. That’s just who I am. I wanted to avoid conflicting narratives or rumors that could eventually cause me pain.”
She further revealed that her husband had been informed in advance about her decision to make the separation public.
“I had already told my husband before I posted it. He knew I was going to share it publicly so that others wouldn’t be the ones to tell our story on social media,” Biola Bayo explained.
The actress also voiced her disappointment over how her announcement was received. “People had already started asking why I wasn’t posting my husband, and I knew that all kinds of rumors would start that same day. That’s why I decided to speak about our separation. But even then, it was used against me. I believe God will reward everyone accordingly.”
Biola Bayo and Oluseyi were married for four years before their recent separation.
