Nigerian fragrance and lifestyle company Mwanga Africa has resumed operations under its founder, Omoyeni Disu, with a renewed ambition to build a premium African brand with an international presence.

The company, known for its focus on fragrances, flowers and beautifully designed spaces, is returning with an expanded vision that goes beyond selling individual products. Its new direction centres on creating experiences through scent, beauty, design and atmosphere.

For Disu, the reopening represents a fresh stage in the development of Mwanga Africa. She said her objective is to create a brand that customers can experience rather than simply a retail outlet.

“I wanted to create more than just a beautiful store. I wanted to create an experience, somewhere you walk into and immediately feel good,” she said.

Mwanga Africa originated from a personal period in Disu’s life when she was searching for ways to create comfort and happiness during a difficult time. That experience eventually inspired her to establish a business centred on fragrance and attractive environments.

The brand adopted the philosophy, “Creating happiness one scent at a time,” while the name Mwanga means “light.”

Over time, however, Disu said the idea developed beyond fragrance. The company now seeks to explore how scent, flowers, design and lifestyle can influence the way people experience their surroundings.

The revamped business is expected to focus more heavily on product quality, packaging, design, customer experience and storytelling as it seeks to establish itself in the premium consumer market.

Disu also said her personal definition of success has changed. She explained that she once measured achievement largely through visible progress, but now places greater value on purpose, relationships, rest, faith, creativity and meaningful work.

That change has influenced her vision for Mwanga Africa.

Rather than limiting the company to the fragrance category, she wants it to evolve into a broader African lifestyle brand capable of entering international markets while retaining its cultural identity.

She believes African businesses can maintain strong connections to their origins while meeting international expectations around quality, design and service.

Mwanga Africa’s ambitions come amid growing interest in African consumer brands built around culture, creativity and identity. The company hopes to occupy part of this emerging market by combining fragrance, flowers and lifestyle products into an experience centred on beauty and intentional living.

For Disu, Mwanga now represents more than the original inspiration behind the business. It has become a symbol of happiness, possibility and the ability to create something meaningful from difficult circumstances.

“The woman I am becoming and the business I am building are beginning to reflect each other,” she said.

As the company looks beyond Nigeria, Disu acknowledges that international expansion will require consistent product quality, efficient operations and a distinctive customer experience.

She also hopes Mwanga Africa’s journey will encourage other Africans to turn creative ideas into sustainable businesses.

The reopening therefore marks a new chapter for the company, with its focus shifting from simply returning to the market to building a durable African lifestyle brand with global ambitions.
