Nigeria’s Super Eagles Pursue Group L Summit in AFCON 2027 Qualifiers
The Super Eagles have departed Uyo by chartered flight for Guinea-Bissau, needing a result to close the gap at the top of 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying Group L, with coach Éric Chelle expected to make one notable change to his starting line-up for tomorrow’s fixture.
Guinea-Bissau top the group after a 2-0 win away in Tanzania, while Nigeria sit second following their 2-1 home win over Madagascar. Both Tanzania and Madagascar remain without points. A top NFF official told NationSport that Chelle and the squad had been assured of the importance of improving on their Madagascar display. Asked what assurances had been obtained from the coach and players, the official said: “We have spoken, and they know the importance of the match and how good it will be for them to win. They know.”

Meanwhile, according to SCORENigeria, Chelle will strengthen his midfield for the Guinea-Bissau tie, with training in Uyo on Saturday evening indicating that Coventry City’s Frank Onyeka is set to start alongside captain Wilfred Ndidi. The change would mean either Jerome Akor or George Ilenikhena drops out of the Starting XI that beat Madagascar.
The Super Eagles were made to work for their opening win after conceding from a set piece, with goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali making a crucial save to deny Madagascar a second goal before the Super Eagles fought back to win 2-1.
