Otu’s Focus on Culture, Tourism Will Boost Cross River Economy – Obudu Chair
By: Emmanuel UjahThe Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. Dr Peter Undiandeye has said that Governor Bassey Edet Otu is making culture and tourism the fulcrum of Cross River State’s development agenda.
Speaking at the 2026 Obudu New Yam Festival – Bewhutang, held at the council secretariat field over the weekend, Undiandeye described the Governor’s support for cultural festivals as a strategic investment that could promote unity, attract tourists, create jobs and stimulate economic growth.
The Cross River is endowed with a rich cultural heritage, festivals and sites with the potential of attracting tourists and creating economic opportunities.

“The Governor’s renewed focus on cultural tourism will enable communities to turn their cultural heritage into an important economic asset,” the council boss said.
“The economic benefits of cultural tourism are directly felt at the grassroots level, creating opportunities for farmers, traders, artisans and young entrepreneurs,” said the Council Chairman.
He encouraged communities throughout the state to support the Governor’s vision to preserve tradition and create an environment that can attract tourists and investors.
Undiandeye also commended the Central Planning Committee for a successful Bewhutang and stated that the project for a new Paramount Ruler’s Palace in Obudu had reached PVC stage.
HRM Utsu Felix Ukudare, the Paramount Ruler, who was represented by High Chief Tony Undiandeye, stated the festival and palace project are important platforms for the preservation of Obudu’s history and identity.
