TRCN Warns Teachers, Applicants Against Fraudsters Using Council’s Name
The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has issued a strong warning to teachers, school proprietors and prospective applicants against falling prey to fraudsters allegedly using the council’s name, logo and identity to extort money from members of the public.
The warning follows the growing number of online platforms, social media posts and messages claiming to provide access to TRCN registration, the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE), certification, licensing and other services.
In a statement issued in Abuja by the Council’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Dr Ronke Soyombo, TRCN said it had become aware of fraudulent activities involving individuals and groups impersonating the council and misleading unsuspecting applicants.
The council stressed that it has not authorised any agent, consultant, third party or staff member to collect payments or process TRCN-related services outside its officially approved procedures and designated channels.

According to the council, no individual or organisation has been authorised to use its name to secure employment, facilitate certification, process registration or licensing, or influence promotions on behalf of applicants.
TRCN also clarified that its official website remains the only approved online platform for obtaining authentic information about its programmes and services. The council said it does not own, operate or recognise any other portal claiming to provide its services.
The council further warned members of the public against transferring money into personal bank accounts in exchange for TRCN services. It emphasised that payments made through unofficial channels could result in financial loss and would not guarantee access to any legitimate council service.
It also cautioned that certificates and licences obtained through unofficial processes would not be recognised by TRCN.
The council urged teachers and applicants to disregard unverified information circulated through WhatsApp, social media platforms, emails and websites claiming to represent TRCN.
Members of the public who have already paid money to suspected fraudsters or received suspicious calls, messages or payment requests in the council’s name were advised to report such incidents to the appropriate security agencies and notify TRCN through its official communication channels.
TRCN said it had instructed its legal advisers and relevant law enforcement agencies to investigate cases of impersonation and fraud involving the council. It added that anyone found guilty of such acts would face prosecution under Nigerian law.
