House deputy speaker’s aide quits, backs LP challenger in 2027 elections
A personal assistant to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives has resigned his position and declared his support for rival Labour Party (LP) candidate, Chima Anyaso, ahead of the 2027 National Assembly election in Abia state.
Nwankwo resigned in a letter dated May 8, 2026, but made it public on Monday via a Facebook post by Promise Okoro.
Mr Nwankwo, who spoke through the secretary, Human Resources and Staff Development of the National Assembly, Benjamin Kalu, explained that he took the decision in view of the forthcoming general election.
“I am hereby formally notifying you of my resignation as a personal assistant. “This decision is necessitated by a need to avoid a conflict of interest as we go into the general elections in 2027.
Also I want to use this medium to thank you for finding me worthy to serve you in that capacity, a gesture I do not take for granted,” he said.
Mr. Nwankwo resigned as an appointee of the deputy speaker on the 8th of May 2026. Okoro posted a copy of the letter on Facebook and wrote “For your information We have decided to back Chima Anyaso in 2027.”
Anyaso is the LP candidate for the Bende Federal Constituency seat occupied by Mr Kalu. (Premium Times)
